Surrounded Southern Minnesota Man Calls In Bomb Threat At School

The Albert Lea Police Department wasn't thrown off the scent of a wanted man after a bomb threat was called into a nearby school this morning. The man, who was ultimately arrested on outstanding warrants after barricading himself inside a residence, confessed to police after being arrested that he indeed was behind the bomb threat.

According to the Albert Lea Police Department:

This morning at 10:41 a.m. the Albert Lea Police Department had determined that Anthony Jerome Woodraska, 33 years of age from Walters, MN was in a residence in the 800 Block of Third Ave South. Woodraska was wanted for numerous theft-related charges and a warrant from another county. Woodraska barricaded himself in the residence and was refusing officers' requests to come out of the residence. Officers continued to negotiate with Woodraska.

At 11:15 a.m. Lakeview School received a report of a bomb in the building. The school was immediately evacuated and emergency responders were dispatched. At 11:25 a.m. negotiations with Woodraska were successful and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Soon after Woodraska admitted that he called in the bomb threat in hopes that the police would leave. Woodraska was transported to the Freeborn County Adult Detention Center and booked in on the warrant and charges related to the theft and bomb threat.

The Albert Lea Police Department was assisted by Albert Lea Fire & Rescue and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Anderson Law Firm, "Under Minnesota law, terroristic threat penalties are usually invoked for death threats or bomb threats. Calling in a bomb threat, whether real or fake, is a felony that carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. An indirect communication of such nature, for example, when a person hints that a bomb may be present in a building but does not take direct personal responsibility, is also considered a terroristic threat and carries a slightly lower penalty of imprisonment for up to three years and a fine of up to $3,000."
