So. MN Small Businesses Tell Communities To “Keep Up The Support”
Social media has changed the way people communicate with one another, and it has also changed how businesses operate at some level too. One Southern Minnesota small business recently took to Facebook to clear the air about their business NOT closing. The post came from the B & B Cafe in Albert Lea, but while I was reading it, I realized that it's really a microcosm of all small businesses and the communities they are located in.
The post starts off telling customers that the rumor of the cafe closing are not true, but from that sentence on it goes further. It's a small business owner located in a smaller community pulling back the curtain on restaurants, small businesses, and in reality being a decent person.
If you do me one favor today, read this post & SHARE THE HECK OUT OF IT!
Today we had someone pull up & said they heard we are closing. (Imagine rumors happening about our little business) No matter how harmless one persons words are, they can hurt people.
So I’m going to clear this up right now. We, as any local business in town, are of course adjusting to a very different business flow. We have been very upfront that we do really need your support. BUT as long as YOU our customers keep supporting us, we will be here. Which is what I’ve been upfront saying all along. Also, did you know the average restaurant only makes enough money to survive for ONE MONTH without sales? This is why so many have closed & why we are being so careful with our choices❤️
Right now is so not the time to start rumors about ANY business. We are all filled with anxiety, trying to find a new balance to what we do. Sometimes I think some people look for “shock & awe” topics of conversations, rather than to talk about the things happening in their world on a real level...
I’ll let you also in on a little secret- every single small business in town needs YOU! Not just us... there is a family behind every business, every owner, every team member.
What does that mean? It means shopping local, buying gift cards,& thinking of your community first before you shop online or drive out of town to spend any of your money.
And if at some point we have to or choose to close- I WILL POST IT HERE. You will always get the upfront real version from us.
Now tomorrow come buy pancakes , post pictures of your breakfast, & put those rumors to rest
My favorite part of this coming from the heart post was this.
"I’ll let you also in on a little secret- every single small business in town needs YOU! Not just us... there is a family behind every business, every owner, every team member.

And that my friends is why we should be supporting those small businesses even more now that they have been open a month. Maybe we were good about shopping locally at the onset of them opening up again, but slowly that trickles away for more convenient options, or maybe just more options from those big box stores on the interstate.
Take some time, make a list of local businesses that offer you services that you can use regularly and change it up and start visiting those places, and supporting those business owners.
