Smokin’ in Steele Barbecue Begins Friday
The ninth Smokin' in Steele Barbecue competition is Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4, on the Steele County Fairgrounds.
Six food vendors will open their booths for business starting at 11AM Friday and stay open throughout the weekend. Barbecuers will be competing all weekend long.
Free blues music outside on the fairgrounds will begin at 7:30PM on Friday 11:30AM Saturday. Music in the Beer Garden will start at 5:30PM Friday and 2PM Saturday. Admission to the beer garden will be on sale at the gate. Thirteen bands are scheduled to perform. A $10 wristband gets you in both Friday and Saturday into the Beer Garden.
Some other activities include the Blues for Kids. It's an opportunity for kids ages 8-18 to learn from a top-notch harmonica player. Kids get a free harmonica, too, at the 1:30PM event on Saturday.
There will be the Gopher Sport 5K run/walk starting at 9AM Saturday, with registration at 7AM.
This year there will be three bike courses to traverse on Saturday starting at 9:30AM. The courses lengths are 8, 23 and 37 miles.
Sign up for the car show will be 3PM Saturday with the showing from 4:30-7:30PM in six categories.
Preregistration forms for the above events along with the musical lineup can be found at the Smokin' in Steele website.
This event serves as a fund raiser for Special Olympics Minnesota.
