One thing that is always fun about spooky season is watching the best spooky and scary movies, whether it’s a classic or a new one that has come out. I was wondering though, what are the scariest movies of all time though? I want to watch something really scary but I don’t want to waste my time.

If you agree with that statement, you have come to the right place. I have the results for The scariest movies - according to Science! 2022 Update, which is and has been released by Broad Band Choices every year since 2020 for the Science of Scare Project.

First, how does this study measure how scary a movie is? Each year Broad Band Choices curates a list of the scariest and most horrific films from horror experts, and online communities and then has a panel of 250 participants watch each film (around 40 films). While each participant watches the films over the course of weeks, they have a heart rate monitor on during the entirety of each movie. The movies are then ranked from 1 to 30 (1 being the scariest movie because it had the highest average BPM and 30 with the lowest BPM).

I will be sharing with you the top five scariest movies this year:

What is interesting this year that I would like to touch on is that only one film from 2022 made it on the list. This was The Black Phone, which came at number 30 out of 30, with an average heart rate of 69 BPM.

They also listed the Top five movies with the biggest jump scare by heart rate:
