The defending Class A State Champion Randolph Rockets defeated Cannon Falls and Maranatha Christian Academy in Rochester Saturday.  They fell to St. Anthony Village.

The Rockets wins were 4-0 over Cannon Falls, 7-2 over Maranatha.  St. Anthony Village dominated 7-1.

In the Cannon Falls game Carter Raymond threw a shutout for Randolph while going the distance.  Raymond struck out 9, walked 1, scattered 5 hits while throwing 84 pitches, 63 for strikes.

The Bombers actually had more hits with 5 but it's the runs that count and Cannon Falls committed 2 errors while the Rockets had one miscue in the field.

Randolph scored in the first inning Kylee Carey walked with one out.  Carey advanced to second on a wild pitch then to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a  Chloe Vought single.

It was the only run they would need but they added 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning.

With one out Raymond doubled.  Vienna Anderson came in as a courtesy runner for the pitcher and advanced to third base on a passed ball. Ella Banks hit a grounder that resulted in a Bombers error scoring Anderson.

Carly Kimmes hammered a double that advanced Banks to third base.  Carey bunted into a fielder's choice resulting in an out of Banks at home.   A ground ball off the bat of Vought ended in an error allowing Kimmes to score.

Carey scored on a passed ball.

In the win against Maranatha Academy the Rockets struck first again with two runs in the second inning.

Anna Olsen walked, Allie Gillette hit a single.  Raymond bunted the base runners over for the first out.  Olsen scored before Taryn Alexon was hit by a pitch.  Gillette scored on a ground out.

Maranatha Christian tied the game in the top of the third inning.  Randolph tallied three more runs in the third .

Carey walked to start the inning.  She was retired on a ground ball from the bat of Vought.  Lindsay Sundby walked.  Olsen singled scoring Vought.  Gillette hit a fly ball that resulted in an error scoring Sundby.

Olsen scored on a double steal when Gillette was thrown out at second base but Olsen made it home safely.

Randolph added 2 runs in the fifth inning.  Vought opened the inning with a walk, Sundby singled. Vought went to third and Sundby was thrown out trying to get to second base.

Olsen hammered a triple scoring Vought then Olsen scored on a ground out.

Raymond was in the pitching circle for the entire game and threw 69 pitches, 55 strikes.  She struck out 8, walked 1 and allowed 13 hits.

The Rockets had no errors, Maranatha finished with 3 errors in the contest.

In the loss to St. Anthony Village the Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in teh first inning.

Randolph's only run came in the top of the fourth inning.  Vought doubled with one out and advanced to third base on a ground out by Sundby.  Olsen singled scoring Vought.

The Huskies scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to secure the victory.

Raymond pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing 9 hits, 7 runs, 5 earned, struck out 4 and walked 2 batters.  Sundby retired the final batter with one pitch.

Raymond threw 85 pitches, 58 strikes.

Randolph (5-3) will play Bethlehem Academy Monday afternoon at Alexander Park in Faribault.  The game is scheduled to be broadcast on KDHL 920 AM, 97.9 FM and on KDHL app worldwide.
