Houston County Sheriff Mark Inglett says a positive identification may take “an extended period of time” due to a lack of DNA results.

Inglett says investigators have made a “presumptive identification” of the remains using “partial remnants of personal effects located in the debris in cooperation with family members.

Inglett has identified the person as 69-year-old Rodney Duane Jacobs.

Inglett says foul play is not suspected.

He says there is video evidence of Jacobs’s vehicle entering the park at 6:40 pm on January 4th. He says at some point, the car became engulfed in flames and Jacobs’s remains were discovered in the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office is awaiting reports from the State Fire Marshal's Office relating to the vehicle fire
