The Owatonna High School wrestlers opened up their Big Nine schedule with a win over Mayo on Thursday. Boys basketball won at Mankato West. The hockey teams lost to the Rockets.

Owatonna's wrestlers made their home debut with a 43-27 victory over Rochester Mayo. Kottke Jeweler's diamond wrestler of the meet, Jacob Harlicker, recorded a pin at 132 pounds to give the Huskies a 22-6 lead. Mayo won four of the next five matches to pull within 28-24. Owatonna's Brandon Moen and Griffin Thorn responded with back-to-back pins at 182 and 195 to clinch the match. The Huskies had a total of six pins.

Huskies coach Cliff Casteel presented KRFO's Roy Koenig with the 2015 Publicity Award from the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association, for "tireless promotion of high school wrestling."

The Huskies wrestle at Farmington on Friday at 5PM against the Tigers, then face Hastings at 6:30PM. Both matches will be on KRFO AM 1390.

OHS boys basketball beat Mankato West 75-50 with four players in double figures. Mason Thein led the team with 19 points and was named the Kottke Jewelers diamond player of the game. Jay Sullivan scored 15. Nolan Malo and Dalton Kubista added 11 apiece. The Huskies defense held a pair of the Scarlets All Conference players to a combined 10 points. Owatonna plays at Farmington on Friday at 7:30PM on Kat Kountry 105FM.

Owatonna girls hockey lost a 2-0 decision to Rochester JM. The Rockets scored in the opening minute of the game and added another in the first minute of the second period. JM extended their Big Nine unbeaten streak to 43 games. The Huskies travel to Winona Saturday for a 6:30PM game.

The Huskies boys hockey team lost 7-1 at Rochester JM on Thursday. The Rockets scored three in the first period and added four in the second. Kade Friedrichs prevented a shutout with a third period goal. Owatonna plays at North St. Paul on Saturday at 3PM on KRFO AM 1390.
