Huskies Slide to Seventh Seed, Open Playoffs at Lakeville

Owatonna's girls and boys basketball teams earned wins over top-ten ranked Austin Tuesday night

With a well-balanced, athletic group of seniors, Owatonna boys' basketball had the best season in a number of years. On Monday night, coach Josh Williams announced that the team Most Valuable Player Award would be shared by all five. Abe Havelka, Andrew Jackson, Dalton Kubista, Nolan Malo and Alex Raichle were each presented with a souvenir basketball.

Lakeville South beat Owatonna 87-57 in an uptempo Section 1AAAA quarterfinal boys basketball game Wednesday night.

OHS beat Albert Lea in boys and girls basketball Friday night. The boys opened their season with a home triumph 79-48. The Huskies girls won 81-45 at Albert Lea.

Monday was the first official day of practice for boys basketball teams. In Owatonna there is a scramble for gym space because the floor at the high school is not quite ready to be used.

There's nothing quite like high school winter sports playoffs. Think about it. In the spring, they get jammed in over the course of about 10 days and most of the kids are more interested in what else is going on in their lives (namely, summer) than the events themselves...

Owatonna High School boys basketball dominated Century 75-53. The OHS girls lost at Mayo 63-33. The gymnasts scored 144.6 while sailing by Northfield.

The Owatonna High School wrestlers opened up their Big Nine schedule with a win over Mayo on Thursday. Boys basketball won at Mankato West. The hockey teams lost to the Rockets.
