Owatonna Playoff Soccer Rescheduled to Wednesday

How well does a soccer ball roll on snow? We could have gotten the answer to that question Tuesday at the Owatonna Soccer Complex at Lincoln School. Instead the section semifinals match-ups have been move to turf fields on Wednesday, October 21. The OHS boys will face Century at 7 pm at Kasson with coverage on AM 1390 KRFO. The Owatonna girls travel to Albert Lea to play Northfield at 8 pm with action on Kat Kountry 105. Both games are available on the radio station apps as well.

Both the OHS girls and boys are the No. 2 seed. If the OHS girls win, they will host the section final. Where and when that game will be is yet to be determined. If the OHS boys win, they would only be home if top-seed Northfield gets upset on Tuesday. The section final is the end of the road for the soccer season with no state tournament to follow.

The Huskies boys beat Century 1-0 at Lincoln to open the season September 1. OHS coach Bob Waypa spoke on Saturday's AM 1390 KRFO coaches show, "That was a long time ago it seems like, and about 70 degrees...They are a well-coached team...We left them many opportunities on the board. We've tweaked our formation since that game."

Huskies girls coach Nate Gendron: "We know their defense plays really, really deep, so we're going to press high on that offensively. We know that they have two really skilled offensive players." Northrfield's Ava Stanchina had 17 regular season goals according to the Soccer Hub at StarTribune.com. She added six assists. Owatonna's leading scorers are Ezra Oien with 13 goals and three assists and Hillary Haarstad with 12 markers and a pair of helpers.
