Owatonna Chamber Earns National Recognition
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce held its annual board meeting this week in Washington D.C. One of the actions taken was the awarding of accreditation to 16 chambers of commerce for their sound policies, effective organizational procedures and positive impact on their communities. Of the 11 receiving accreditation with 5 stars was the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
Chamber head Brad Meyers was a guest on AM 1390's Talk of the Town. He points out that early December is shaping up to be a busy one. Thursday, December 1, is the date for the Hometown Holiday parade at 6PM. The lighted parade goes down North Cedar Avenue and around Central Park where the lighting ceremony takes place. You can check out the Owatonna Chamber calendar of events for all the festivities coming up in early December.
Brad also discussed the Made in Owatonna initiative, which is a collaboration with the Chamber along with the United Way and Junior Achievement. This program allows high school students to visit various businesses and factories in Owatonna in person and get a firsthand look as to what it is like to work there. About 60 students will be visiting these areas on Tuesday. This is one of three scheduled visits to area businesses for young folks.
In early December, there will be an event called AM Advocacy, which consists of the newly elected governmental officials meeting with the Chamber.
