The Northfield Raiders boys hockey team defeated Mankato East/Loyola 4-3 in a overtime thriller against Mankato East at the Northfield Ice Arena Tuesday night.

Kamden Kaiser scored the game winner 2:17 into the overtime with assists from Spencer Klotz and Matthew DeBuse.

The Raiders scored the only goal of the first period at 12:13 when Kaiser had a goal with assists to Klotz and Allen Royle.

First period shots on goal were 15-4.

The Cougars tied the game with a second period power play goal at 9:16 scored by Shae Gavin with assists from Andrew Bastian and Quintin Steindl.

Shots on goal favored Mankato East 7 to 4.

Steindl scored on another power play 1:47 into the third period to put Mankato East ahead.  An assist was credited to Bastian.

:32 seconds later Northfield's Luke Johnson answered to tie the game.  An assist was given to Brayden Olsen.

At 7:03 Northfield took the lead again on a Brayden Brakke goal.  Assist to Olsen.

11:06 Cayden Monson was whistled for boarding which is a 5:00 minute major penalty.

12:41 Aiden Prochaska scored another Mankato East power play goal sending the game into overtime.

Third period shots on goal were 13 to 7 in favor of Northfield.

The Cougars were 3 of 6 on the power play while the Raiders were 0 for 5.

A huge win for Northfield keeps them in first place in the Big Nine Conference title race with 21 points.  Mankato East has 18 points.  The Raiders are 8-0-1 in the league and 9-5-1 overall.

The Cougars are 6-3 in Big 9 action, 11-6 overall.

In the girls game at Mankato All Seasons Arena the only goal scored came 51 seconds into the second period.

McKenzie Keller scored on a assist by Ashley Fischer in a penalty free game.

The Raiders outshot the Cougars 44 to 20.

In the first period shots were 12-2 in favor of Northfield.

In the second period shots were 12-6 with the Raiders on the plus side.

The third period Northfield had 20 shots, Mankato East 12 shots.

Anna Rader was in goal for the Cougars shutout victory.  Northfield goalie Macy Mueller stopped 19 shots. Rader had 44 saves.

The Cougars keep pace with league leading Owatonna.  The Huskies scored a four point 9-0 win over Red Wing giving Owatonna 25 points.  Mankato East has 22 points.

Northfield is next with 19 points in Big Nine play.

Mankato East has a 8-3 conference mark.  16-5 overall.

Northfield fell to 5-1-1 in the conference.  11-4-3 overall.
