The Minnesota Zoo is getting $6 million in bailout money from the state. This bailout is very needed as the Minnesota Zoo has been closed since March 14th and has lost a lot of revenue.

The Minnesota Zoo has told Bring Me the News that they are projecting a $15 million loss in revenue due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The Minnesota Zoo is a state agency so typically they get a third of their revenue from the state and the other two-thirds from ticket sales and concession sales. Of course, because they've had to be closed that money has not been coming in.

Bring Me the News reports that "Gov. Tim Walz said the zoo may have to move animals or close if it doesn't get financial support." So thankfully the zoo was able to get its much-needed support from the state! The $6 million is coming from the Minnesota COVID-19 relief fund according to FOX 9.

The Minnesota Zoo is now open, though, to an extent. They have a special drive-through experience going on called Beastly Boulevard. They actually just recently extended the dates of Beastly Boulevard to July 12th, so there's still time to check it out.

When the Coronavirus pandemic started the Minnesota Zoo, sadly, had to lay off dozens of employees. 125 positions at the zoo were affected in one way or another. And, just like all other venues, they had to cancel events, like their popular summer event, Music in the Zoo.
