A variety of ready-to-heat and eat stuffed pasta is being recalled due to concerns over Listeria Monocytogenes.   Garland Ventured LTD has voluntarily recalled more than 1,095 cases of their Five Cheese Stuffed Shells - which are sold at a variety of grocery stores throughout the country.

According to information released by the United States Food and Drug Administration, the concern over Listeria shouldn't be taken lightly.  Listeria Monocytogenes is "an organism [that] can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and other with weakened immune systems."  The United States Food and Drug Administration goes on to say that "[a]lthough healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women". At the present time there have been no reported cases of illness.

The Garland Ventures product being recalled is the "Five Cheese Stuffed Shells", which are sold in 10.76 ounce packages, containing shells with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and parsley - and comes packaged in an aluminum foil container with a clear lid.  The packaging is marked "Lot # F080SS/F090SS" on the bottom of the label.

The source of origination for the recall came from random sampling.  Those samples found the presence of Listeria Monocytogenes in them.  At that time the company ceased production and distribution of the product immediately.

If you believe you have some of the product, what do you do? The U.S. FDA offers the following advice:

"Consumers who have purchased 10.76 ounce trays of “Five Cheese Stuffed Shells” are urged to return them to the place of purchase for full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Bob Cocat anytime at 972-795-5313."
