According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the new scam goes like this; a person calls you claiming to be a friend or representative of a relative. They'll claim a friend or relative is in some kind of trouble or has been in an accident.

They then claim they need cash to pay for services to help the relative or friend. They even say they can come and pick up the cash in person. This makes this scam extra scary, because they actually want you to give them your address.

In one scam call, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, scammers called an elderly woman and told her her son had been involved in an accident. These scammers are doing their homework. After being questioned about her son the scammer was able to provide personal details about him.

Be vigilant and aware.  If something just doesn't seen right, do not give out any of your personal information. This especially goes for your address.  You certainly don't want these scumbags to know where you live. Also never, ever give out your banking information to anyone.

If you should get a scammer call, immediately contact you local authorities. Be smart, stay safe.
