Medford Straight River Days June 15th-17th
Medford Straight River Days is coming up next weekend. Straight River Days is an annual community celebration, which started in 1971. The first Straight River Days event celebrated the opening of the new waste water treatment facility. They held a parade, a street dance, and the Miss Medford Pageant.
Those same traditions continue today, with the Miss Medford Pageant taking place on Thursday, June 15th, followed by a children's dance. The Medallion Hunt also begins on Thursday.
On Friday, June 16th, the festivities start early with a City-Wide garage sale, starting at 8am. There is also a parade at 7pm, and food stands are open. I went the the parade last year, and plan on attending again this year. The parade was a blast, so many people participate, and the sidewalks were packed with spectators. After the parade, there will be music in the park, starting at 8:30 pm.
Saturday, June 17th, the Fire 5-5K Run/Walk starts off the day of festivites. The City-Wide garage sales will continue, and there are so many other events to participate in. You can find the entire schedule here.
The celebration will end with the Muni Street Dance, at 9pm on Saturday evening. I have not been to this in recent years, but, I have attended the street dance in the past, and it is always a great time.
