Southern Minnesota Fire Department Recognizes Young Boy For Saving His Family

The Medford Fire Department recently shared a video from an award ceremony for a young man who woke up, smelled smoke, and alerted his family to get out of their home before fire department personnel arrived.

According to a post by the Medford Fire Department on their Facebook page:

Medford Fire was honored to award Brayden Villafan with a life-saving award tonight. Early morning, last Sunday we were called to his home for a structure fire. Brayden woke up his family members and was able to get everyone out of the home. His actions and quick thinking were nothing short of heroic. Well done Brayden!

On Sunday, June 5th Brayden Villafan woke up and notified his family that he could smell smoke. By Brayden alerting his family, there were able to make it out of the home safely.

For doing this, Brayden earned the Medford Fire Department's Lifesaver Award.

Brayden credited his heroic efforts to remembering when the fire department came to his school to talk about fire safety, and when the department's smoke trailer came to his school to simulate a smoke-filled home.

On top of the lifesaving award, Brayden also took home a Dairy Queen gift certificate given by the fire department as well.

Way to go Brayden! You did a great job in helping to keep your family safe in the face of danger!
