Mankato West rallied late for a baseball victory and early for a softball win as the Scarlets swept the Huskies on the diamond Tuesday. The baseball final was 7-5 while the softball game ended early with West winning 15-0.

At Fuller Field at Dartt's Park, the OHS baseball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead on RBI hits by Zach Wiese, Matt Williams and Jake Miller. West pulled within 4-3. Owatonna got one more run but the Scarlets handed the defending Big Nine champs their first loss of the season 7-5. Owatonna plays at Northfield Thursday, April 18 at 5 pm on KRFO AM 1390 and the KRFO app.

The Scarlet softball team is off to a blistering start at the plate this season, scoring double-digit totals in each of their first three games. West hammered out 14 hits in the 15-0 victory. OHS senior Patty Biegert had two of the Huskies three hits including a double.

The Huskies host Northfield Thursday at 5 pm at Morehouse Park. The Scarlets travel to Winona Thursday. The Winhawks lost to eventual state champion Faribault in the state semifinals last spring. The Scarlets lost to the Falcons in the section finals last season.

Blooming Prairie softball topped Maple River Tuesday 5-1. Julia Worke had two hits including a triple and drove in two runners. Maggie Bruns added two hits and scored a run. Allison Krohnberg had a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. The Awesome Blossoms play at NRHEG Thursday.

Blooming Prairie baseball lost 4-0 to Maple River Tuesday and will host NRHEG Thursday.

Panther baseball dropped a 9-6 makeup game to JWP Tuesday. The Bulldogs pulled away with a seven-run fourth inning. Seven hits, a pair of walks and a hit batter fueled their big inning.
