Kemps Closing South Broadway Plant in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Downtown Rochester is losing another long-time agricultural business.
St. Paul-based Kemps today announced it plans to end production at its plant along South Broadway in Rochester in June. The decision follows an earlier announcement by Associated Milk Producers Inc. to stop its production and sell the facility, where Kemps leased space for its operations.
“Business decisions that impact people’s lives are difficult,” said Greg Kurr, president and chief executive officer at Kemps. “In evaluating our options, it became apparent ceasing operations is the best long-term strategy for our business. The employees at this facility have done an excellent job, and we greatly appreciate their hard work and dedication.”
There are currently 125 people employed at the South Broadway Kemps facility. The company says it will work with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development to assist them as the June 30th closing date approaches.
Kemps has operated at the site for over 60-years. The company notes the closure does not impact Kemps’ ice cream plant located on North Broadway in Rochester.
