So you've decided that you are going to get the COVID-19 vaccine when it's available to you, but how do you get one? Do you just walk into a pharmacy and ask for it like a flu shot? Do you have to fill out some paperwork or give a secret password to your doctor? Not really. Right now in Minnesota, you go to a website once a week and hope that you are able to get a spot before they all fill up. Not as romantic or as easy as it would seem, for now.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, "there continues to be a very limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine in Minnesota. Despite promises from the federal government, Minnesota has not yet received an increase in vaccine dose supply."

Those eligible to receive the vaccine right now, a limited group of Minnesotans, are:

  • Age 65 and over
  • Pre-k through grade 12 educators
  • Child care workers

For those in the education field or are a child care worker, the Minnesota Department of Health is urging you to "NOT" call your provider for vaccination or make an appointment on the website when the portal is open as you will be "notified by your employer that you’ve been selected to receive a vaccine."

The website in which people should schedule their vaccination, at this time, is only open on Tuesdays at noon, until all the spots fill up. That website is here. Minnesota has 9 sites set up right now to give the vaccinations, the cities that have vaccination sites are Andover, Brooklyn Center, Fergus Falls, Marshall, Mountain Iron, North Mankato, Rochester, St. Cloud, and Thief River Falls.

For those who don't have a computer, or are uncomfortable using it, you can call toll-free at 833-431-2053 when the system opens back up to schedule an appointment. The Minnesota Department of Health notes that the phone number is only for those 65 and older as "Educators and child care workers must schedule online, not by phone." according to the scheduling website.

Inevitably getting a COVID-19 vaccination will become easier as more of it is available, but for now, the website that that phone number is the best ways for you to become vaccinated against COVID-19.
