Owatonna High School graduate and Gustavus Adolphus senior Bri Hartmann has started her senior spring tennis season with a strong opening volley, earning MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors. The returning All-Conference performer, who plays No. 1 singles for the Gusties won all four of her matches to start the season.

Hartmann won her singles match 6-0, 6-2 and her No. 1 doubles match 8-1 over Saint Mary's. She won her singles match against St. Scholastica 6-3, 6-1 and her doubles showdown 8-0. The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the honor this week. Read the Gustavus news release here.

Hartmann is our latest KRFO radio/H & R Block Stat Sheet Stuffer with her efforts to begin her senior season. The Gusties are the preseason favorite to repeat as MIAC champions and have won the league title in three of the last four years.

Gusties' coach Jon Carlson has a strong senior class of players, "I think our seniors in general have done a good job being leaders," he says in the preseason outlook, "all bring something different to the leadership role."

As a junior Hartmann played in the NCAA singles tournament. She won a match before losing to the defending national champ. She also has earned All-America honors in her career by winning the ITA Midwest Regional and taking fifth at the Oracle Cup. Carlson said, "This was a great experience for Bri and will only make her a better players moving forward."
