Representatives involved with the Faribault Winter Farmers' Market stop by KDHL at 9:30 this morning to discuss details of their upcoming event.  Below is a News Release they wrote outlining some of the happenings.

"The Faribault Winter Farmers’ Market celebrates its first Family Day Event on Saturday, February 8th from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the Paradise Center for the Arts. The event includes art activities, games, healthy recipes provided by community organizations that work with youth and families. Allina Health Clinic will provide market vouchers to children 2 years or older to spend on healthy foods at the market.

Community organization and winter market vendor booths will be interspersed throughout the Paradise Center for the Arts main floor (auditorium and lobby) and the rehearsal room in the basement. Market-goers can visit with representatives from the following organizations:

  • Allina Health Clinic
  • Census Bureau
  • Girl Scouts
  • Living Character
  • Mayo Health Clinic
  • Northfield Hospitals & Clinics
  • Paradise Center for the Arts
  • Rice County 4-H
  • Rice County Public Health with Child and Teen Checkups
  • Rice County Statewide Health Improvement Partnership
  • University of MN Extension Master Gardeners
  • Virtues Project

There will be free giveaways from many organizations including free cooking thermometers and 2020 calendars with healthy recipes from the Rice County Extension Health & Nutrition Educator.

The Faribault Winter Farmers’ Market is a space for southern Minnesota residents to find locally grown, homemade foods and farm-raised products in the winter season. Faribault Winter Farmers’ Market vendors at Family Day come from Faribault to Minneapolis, from New Prague to Zumbrota. Local products will include apples, cheese, eggs, goat milk soap, honey, wool fiber products, pasture-raised meats, maple syrup, microgreens, canned goods, baked goods and much more.

  • Eat Me Bakery - Baked goods (mini bundt cakes, cookies, cupcakes)
  • Get Bentz Farm – Icelandic sheep raw wool fiber, wool bedding, lamb meat, yarn, batting, lard soap and goat milk lotions
  • Graise Farm – duck eggs, chicken eggs, pastured-pork products, pasture-raised chicken
  • Jirik Family Farm - Honey, maple syrup, beef, beef sticks, salmon, whole chickens

New!!! Allina Health Market Bucks Now Accepted

Allina Health Market Bucks are now accepted at the Faribault Winter Farmers’ Market! At Family Day, an Allina Health Clinic representative will give away $2 Allina Health Bucks to children ages 2 and over to purchase local food items at the Winter Farmers’ Market. Allina’s Health Market Buck program is a way to increase access to local fresh foods to community members. Allina Market Bucks are distributed by Allina health providers and community partners. Allina Health Market Bucks may be used to purchase healthy food items at the Faribault Winter Farmers’ Market. Vendors accepting Allina Market Bucks will have a sign posted at their table that states “Allina Health Bucks accepted here.”
