The Faribault Lakers travelled to Montgomery Friday night and earned a 6-1 hard fought win over the Mallards.  As silly as it sounds with 6 runs scored this was a pitcher's duel with a scoreless game through the first 6 innings.  Faribault scored 4 runs to break the game open on 2 hits in the 7th inning.

Up to that point Montgomery pitcher Johnny Krocak was throwing some heat to the Lakers.  Krocak allowed 3 hits over the first six innings.  When he left the game with one out to go in the top of the ninth Faribault had 8 hits and took advantage of 3 hit batters, 3 walks and 2 wild pitches.  Krocak fanned 19 Lakers batters throwing 146 pitches, 97 strikes.

Egan Bonde was dealing for the Lakers.  He went the distance and pitched out of multiple jams.  The Mallards matched Faribault in hits with 8 but could muster just one unearned run.  Bonde struck out 16 Mallards hitters while tossing 144 pitches, 94 strikes.  He had 1 walk.

Mike Carpentier led Faribault at the plate with 3 hits including a RBI double.  Dylan O'Neil had 2 hits, 2 RBI.  Mitch Johnson a pair of hits and a RBI. Joe Grote collected the other RBI hit.  Grote also had two stolen bases.

The only run Montgomery scored was on a pickoff attempt by Bonde to first base in the bottom of the 7th inning that went all the way down the right field line.  Jake McCabe scored from first base on the play.

Krocak struck out every Faribault batter he faced at least once, 7 batters multiple times.

Bonde struck out 9 of 11 batters faced in the game with 4 batters retired more than once by strike out.

For the Mallards Mike Flicek had 2 hits, Cole Pint 2 hits.  Montgomery center fielder Aaron Dwyer made a couple fantastic catches in the game.

Faribault 12-11, hosts New Market Sunday at 2:00 p.m.  The Lakers are inducting former team member and long time Faribault High School baseball coach Rick Rost into the Bell Field Hall of Fame.  The Faribault native also played football and baseball at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

Rost's sons Nick and Nate play for the Muskies so organizers thought it would be the perfect game for the brief induction ceremony which will occur before the first pitch of the game.

Montgomery 12-9 is at Union Hill Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and finishes their regular season next Sunday at Veseli at 2:00 p.m.
