The Northfield River Rats Legion baseball team had a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning in Apple Valley tonight.  Eastview was able to plate 6 runs in the sixth to secure a 8-5 win over Northfield.  River Rats first batter Joey Malecha sent an 0-2 pitch over the fence to start the game.

Eastview answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning.  Northfield scored 3 runs in the third inning with the big blow a Joey Glampe two run homer.  It was a 1-2 count.  Jim Vitito also hit a home run on a 1-2 count putting the Raiders up 3-1.  Eastview answered with another run in the bottom of the third inning.  The River Rats 5th run scored in the top of the 6th on an error.  With one out Sam Pratt singled to left field followed by a hard ground ball off the bat of Kevin Grundhoffer resulting in an error, scoring Pratt.

The bottom of the 6th started with back to back hit batsmen and a walk to load the bases for Eastview.  Then there was a strikeout.  Followed by a RBI walk, two run single, strikeout, RBI single and another run scoring on a throw to the infield.

Nick Wagner started the game for Northfield going the first 5 innings with 6 hits allowed and two earned runs, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts.  Joey Malecha took the loss after going a third of an inning with 6 earned runs, 2 walks, 2 hit batsmen and 1 strikeout.  Joe Malecha pitched the final two thirds of an inning with no runs allowed and 1 strikeout.

Wagner threw 83 pitches, 53 strikes.  Joey Malecha tossed 27 pitches with 10 strikes and Joe Malecha had 13 pitches with 9 strikes.

With the loss Northfield is 3-4 this summer and hosts Faribault at 7:00 p.m. Monday.
