Do This For Free Friday in Minnesota; But Don’t Do This
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is opening their doors to all on Friday, November 26 at no charge. The DNR is waiving all entrance fees to enter their 75 state parks and recreation areas. It's one of four times they offer this special each year.
In a news release, DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen says, "Public lands are for all of us to enjoy. The free park days ensure everyone has the chance to experience the peace and beauty of Minnesota's state parks and recreation areas. There's no better time to do this than with family and friends following Thanksgiving celebrations."
DON'T FALL THRU THIN ICE
At the same time, the DNR is cautioning outdoors people to be wary of ice on lakes and ponds. In a separate news announcement, the DNR indicates, "lakes and ponds throughout the state have started to freeze - and that where ice hasn't formed, the water is dangerously cold."
Lt. Adam Block with the DNR's enforcement division says, "There's nothing worse than when a time of year that should be festive turns tragic. Teaching your kids to be vigilant around the water this time of year - and doing the same yourself - isn't just a good idea. It's absolutely necessary."
