Delta Changing Uniforms After Employees Complain of Getting Sick
Delta Airlines released new uniforms just two years ago, in 2018, and they're already getting new ones by late 2021. This is because employees are complaining that their current uniforms are making them sick.
The announcement was made Wednesday that they'll be getting these new uniforms. NBC News reports that several Delta employees "suffered severe respiratory illnesses, rashes, blisters, boils, hair loss, hives, sinus problems, headaches, fatigue, nosebleeds and anxiety, among other health issues."
Bring Me the News reports that "the uniforms were described as 'high stretch, wrinkle and stain-resistant, waterproof, anti-static and deodorizing,' and employees are claiming to have allergic reactions to the chemicals used in the uniform "to achieve those effects."
If employees want to use a different uniform in the meantime Delta is allowing them to do so. I was at a store in the Mall of America with my mom this past Sunday and one of the employees said a bunch of Delta flight attendants had come in a few days before to get replacement uniforms for the time being because of this issue.
According to Bring Me the News, Delta is going to "'identify more sustainable textile practices, taking greater control of the production process and offering employees a greater choice of garments.'"
Delta is now suing Lands End, the company that created these uniforms, because of these health complaints.
