An illuminating event will return to Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines this week!

According to an article from the Des Moines Register, Blank Park Zoo is gearing up to host their 2nd annual Wild Lights Festival this April and May. The Facebook post says that this one-of-a-kind event features "over 40 handcrafted, larger-than-life, illuminated animal shaped Asian lanterns crafted by Tianyu Arts & Culture," with a focus on "Asian mythical creatures, prehistoric dinosaurs and endangered animals."

If you're one of the 42,000 people who attended the festival in 2021, you can expect to see lots of brand new lanterns this year, but also a few fan-favorites, like the giant moving peacock and the butterfly forest. Check out a few of the displays from last year below:

The 2022 Wild Lights Festival presented by MidAmerican Energy Company will take place Wednesday through Sunday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. beginning April 1st. The final day of the event is Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th. Because the event is so popular, you'll need to purchase your tickets in advance. The President and CEO of Blank Park Zoo told the Register:

"Wednesdays are going to be our lightest nights. Fridays and Saturdays are going to be the sold-out nights. Last year, every weekend in May was sold out.”

Advance tickets are $24.95 per person over the age of one or $30 at the gate. A four-pack of tickets is $89.95 in advance, and there are also discounts for large groups available. You can get more information and purchase your tickets HERE.
