Austin Man Admits to Murder Charge For Killing Stepson
A plea agreement has been reached in an Austin murder case.
28-year-old Jaime Vaca today entered guilty pleas to second-degree murder and attempted murder charges for killing his 15-year-old stepson and critically wounding his wife. He was arrested after Austin police responded to a domestic dispute on December 15th last year and found both victims suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.
The criminal complaint alleged Vaca stabbed his wife in the neck and was choking her when her teenage son tried to come to her rescue. Austin police investigators indicated Vaca responded by stabbing the 15-year-old in the neck. He was able to escape and call 911 before collapsing.
He later died from his wounds, while his mother survived after undergoing life-saving surgery. The court documents say the violence occurred while the couple was arguing about Vaca's job status.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 13th. The plea agreement recommends consecutive sentences totaling just over 31 years in prison.
