Aces Baseball Survives Weekend; Now Two Wins Away From State
Owatonna Aces amateur baseball scored a pair of victories August 4 and 5 to stay alive in the Region 5C playoffs. That advances the team to Saturday, August 11 at Fuller Field at Dartt's Park, where a pair of wins will earn them a spot in the state tournament.
The Aces topped Pine Island Saturday 9-3 after waiting out a long rain delay. Sunday they slipped by Dodge County in the elimination bracket. Owatonna split their games the previous weekend.
Owatonna will see Cannon Falls Saturday at 10 am at Dartts' Park. The winner moves to the 7 pm state-qualifying game against the winner of Stewartville-Racine versus Wanamingo, who play at 1 pm Saturday. There is also the 4 pm regional championship game between Lake City and Red Wing to determine the top seed from the region. Both have already qualified for state.
The loser's bracket winner will be the third team from the region to reach the state tournament, which will be held in New Prague, Shakopee and Jordan.
