5 Fantastic Events to Benefit Great Causes in Steele County This Spring
Several big Steele County events are scheduled to return in their full glory this spring. Whether you want to eat a cake that looks too good to eat or work off the calories from eating cake, there's something for you. If you want to bid on awesome auction items to benefit St. Mary's School in Owatonna or the food shelf in Ellendale or hear from an award-winning Twin Cities sportscaster, it is happening in the coming weeks.
Taking it chronological order, The Steele County Young Life Cake Auction opens up the festivities on Saturday, April 23. But bidding begins on Thursday, April 21. A special feature this year is a pair of special live auction packages over the noon hour on April 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna.
Use of a Bend, Oregon condo for a week's vacation in 2023 is one of the special live auction items. The other is a wine tasting party for 10-12 people. A game of Too-High-or-Too-Low and lunch will be part of the noon-hour highlights that day.

The 36th Night of Knights Auction to benefit St. Mary's School in Owatonna is also on Saturday, April 23. Doors open at 4 pm. There will be more than 100 silent auction baskets, and about 35 live auction lots, in addition to the Spirit of the Knight Award. Get registered and find out more on their Facebook page.
The Ellendale Area Food Shelf is hosting a benefit meal on Sunday, April 24 at the Ellendale United Methodist Church from 4 to 6 pm. Enjoy a walking taco supper will reviewing the silent auction items.
As part of their 125th-anniversary celebration, the Brick-Meger Funeral Home of Owatonna is hosting a special event on Thursday, May 5. Award-winning Twin Cities sportscaster Joe Schmit will make a keynote address at 1 pm. The event starts at 11 am with pork burgers grilled by the Steele County Pork Producers. Brick-Meger Funeral Home is located at 1603 Austin Road in Owatonna.
Owatonna's From the Heart Run benefits two families in their battle against cancer. Jennifer Schwab and Shelly Johnson will be the recipients of funds from a variety of money-raising activities. The May 7 event includes a 5K run/walk, half marathon, half marathon relay, and kids fun run.
