Tracy Ignazewski of Steele County 4-H was on AM 1390's Fair Talk program. 4-H membership in Steele County is holding its own with around 550 members. 4-H also touches around 400 others during their summer programming and around 400 more with their after school offerings.

Tracy pointed out that a number of city kids are getting involved in the farm animal lease program where the child works with and later shows a cow, hog or other animal from the country. Rabbits are on the increase(seems they always are). Part of the reason for the higher numbers of rabbits at the fair is that they're pretty easy to raise in town versus a larger animal of course. 4-H'ers also man their food stand Monday through Sunday at the Steele County Free Fair.

Some new offerings at the fair include the Butterfly garden  which will segue from the kids zone at Town's Square into the 4-H building. 4-H'ers will also be offering I Pads that youngsters can play farmer or rancher. The 4-H will also be offering a Scavenger Hunt starting at 11AM on Friday where youngsters will be visiting the 4-H barns, activities and the 4-H food stand. Dates for the fair are August 14-19.
