The Owatonna High School wrestling team reflected on a successful 2016-17 season at their recent banquet at the Monterey Ballroom of Owatonna.

Owatonna senior Brandon Moen (34-0) had a dominant weekend at the state wrestling tournament, winning his second straight state title.

Defending state champions Peyton Robb and Brandon Moen lead a contingent of seven Owatonna wrestlers to qualify for the state tournament. OHS also competes as a team.

Brackets for the team competition at the state wrestling tournament were announced Wednesday. OHS got the fourth seed and will face fifth seed Hastings on Thursday, March 2.

The Huskies averaged more than a point a minute while winning their Section 1AAA wrestling quarterfinal 62-12 over Rochester JM at OHS in a match that took 57 minutes.

Over a three-day span beginning Thursday, teams in three sports will earn trips to the state tournament.

The Owatonna wrestlers wrapped up the outright Big Nine title Thursday night with a 40-19 victory over Faribault at the OHS gym.

With their triangular sweep on Thursday at Mankato, the Owatonna wrestlers improved to 9-0 in conference action to secure a Big Nine title. It's their 23rd overall crown.

No. 6AAA Owatonna went 3-1 at Mounds View, but was missing several key wrestlers and couldn't compete with No. 3AAA Anoka in the finals, falling 59-7 in the finals.

Owatonna senior Brandon Moen is poised on the edge of history. He is one win shy of tying Alex Meger for the top spot on the career wins list with 199 victories.
