Little Shop of Horrors is a deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smashes musical. This charmingly tongue-in-cheek comedy about a man-eating plant opens on Friday, July 27 at the Paradise Center for the Arts in historic downtown Faribault. Little Shop of Horrors is presented by the Paradise Community Theatre and runs July 27 - August 5.
Creative geniuses Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are the men behind Little shop of horrors. They are known for creating world-class musicals including Disney's “The Little Mermaid”, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin."
Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn, played by Devon Gordon, as he stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" after his coworker, played by Kaitlin Horenstein. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore, voice of Randy Donstand, promises unending fame and fortune to the down-and-out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out-of-this-world origins and intent towards global domination!
Meanwhile, the owner of the Flower shop, cranky Mr. Mushnik, played by Patrick Braucher, keeps pushing Seymour to grow the plant while being concerned about employee Audrey and her abusive dentist boyfriend, Orin Scrivello, played by Dan Anderson. .
A trio of 1960s street urchins named Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon played by Jill Neymeyer, Madison Mularkey, and Paula Goebel and their friends Tammy Roett, Kenna DaMitz and Amanda Cooper set the scene and comment on the action throughout the show. Other singer/dancers and skid row folks include George Hemphill III, Samuel Temple, Amber Holven and Carter Howell.
Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. As one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows, Little Shop Of Horrors has been produced worldwide to incredible success. The show was also made into a movie in 1986 starring Rick Moranis.
