If you've driven by Central Park in downtown Faribault recently you may have noticed several hundred scarves tied around the trees that make up the park. They are there for more than just adornments on the trees. With the temperatures plunging below zero this week and plenty of winter still ahead of us, there are people who live right here who cannot afford some of the warm winter wear that most of us take for granted each day. Those scarves, along with mittens and hats, were placed there by volunteers led by organizer Elizabeth Sammons this past Saturday morning for homeless people who live in the community, for people in need and people who could just use a helping hand to fend off some of the cold.

You can also help put coats into the hands of people who could really use them tonight (January 4) at the Faribo West Mall. The outreach organization Streets of Hope will be out there collecting and handing out warm winter clothing starting at 7PM near the Jesus Food storefront. They are looking for coats, hats, gloves, mittens, socks and other warm winter gear that is in good, clean, usable condition that you would like to donate. If you're in need of these items for yourself, your family or someone you know, you're welcome to stop by and pick up the items you could use.
