The National Weather Service says most of the area can expect temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s, which, mixed with the high humidity, will cause heat indices to rise into the upper 90s with some 100-degree readings across the southern part of the state.

Those who are planning to be active outdoors will be more susceptible to heat illness. Frequent breaks in the shade are recommended. Strenuous outdoor activities should be reduced, especially when in direct sunlight.

Also, most of this area is in a risk for severe thunderstorms breaking out this evening and into the night. A higher risk is possible from the Twin Cities north.

Keep an eye on the sky and we will let you know of any changes and watches and warnings.
