A news release from the Red Wing Fire Department says crews responded to the report of two adults and a child being stranded on the north side of the He Mni Can-Barn Bluff shortly before 2 p.m. Conditions on the north side of the bluff were described as poor and covered with snow, ice and mud on a significant slope.

Search and rescue teams arrived and ascended the side of the bluff to reach the family within 40 minutes of receiving the call. The team confirmed the hikers were unhurt and secure in their location.

Emergency crews then conducted an air rescue. The Minnesota Air Rescue Team safely removed the family from the bluff and brought them to a nearby park.

Officials say a helicopter, two fire engines, an ambulance and utility vehicle responded to the scene. A mutual aid agency responded to an unrelated medical emergency during the rescue.

The Red Wing Fire Department is reminding hikers to use caution while hiking the bluff, saying conditions can change and be unsuitable for hiking during the springtime.
