It's the annual Take a Kid Fishing Weekend now through Sunday, June 10. Minnesotans can fish without a license provided they take a child or children 15 years of age or younger fishing. Youngsters 15 and under don't need a fishing license during any time during the year. Fishing gear is available to borrow at state parks. You can learn more at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources web site.

Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed this month as Great Outdoors Month. Along with this the DNR is once again allowing free admission to all 75 Minnesota state Parks and recreation areas on Saturday, June 9. You will not need the $7 vehicle permit to enter parks on Saturday.

A few parks in southern Minnesota are offering special attractions on Saturday. They include a Family Outdoor Fair at Whitewater State Park near Winona from 12-3PM. There will be archery, geocaching, bird watching, trout fishing and more.

The Minnesota Zoomobile will be at Minneopa State Park in Mankato from 1-3PM with live animals, storytelling and an ice cream social.

Get out and enjoy the outdoors this weekend.
