United States To Open Borders To Canada And Mexico, With Stipulations

This has been a long time coming, since March of 2020, but it will be open for non-essential travelers.

You will have to carry your vaccination card for proof of vaccination. Now, this is for drivers, rail travelers, and ferries. If you fly, you will have to carry proof of a negative COVID test and your vaccination card.

This is something both Mexico and Canada have pressed the United States for months. At this point, November is the month the US will drop its policies and put in place the new one.  If you are traveling it is good to find out what the policy is to enter those countries and what you need to re-enter America.

 According to Fox 9, the CDC says the U.S. will accept any travelers that have been vaccinated with the vaccines approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization, not just those in use in the U.S. That means that the AstraZeneca vaccine, widely used in Canada, will be on the list of accepted vaccines..

According to Fox 9, officials said the CDC was still working to finalize what rules to use for admitting those who received doses of two different vaccines in other countries, like in Canada.

Mexico has not put in place any COVID-19 entry procedures for travelers. Canada allows entry of fully-vaccinated individuals with proof of vaccination against COVID-19 as well as proof of a negative test conducted within 72 hours of entry to the country.

It looks like according to the rules for air travel it is very similar, negative test 72 hours previous to entry on the airplane and proof of vaccination.

What Do I Do If I Lose My COVID-19 Vaccination Card?

When you get your COVID-19 vaccine, you're handed a card that details the date, manufacturer variety, and location of your dose. If you're getting one of the two-dose vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna), you'll need that card to coordinate your second and final dose. But even with the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine and even after getting the second shot, you'll need to keep that card in a safe place.

While nationwide vaccine mandates aren't a thing at the present time, there are a variety of times you might need that card even after completing the vaccine process. Many schools (primary, secondary, and higher education) are requiring the COVID-19 vaccine similar to other vaccinations. Additionally, some entertainment venues and mass transportation are requiring either proof of a negative COVID test or the vaccine card.

So what happens if you lose it? Relax. There are ways of obtaining a replacement - and they differ slightly whether you've lost it before getting both doses or after.
