Everyone wants the place they call home to be a safe place where we can go relax at the end of the day. There are always studies that come out each year of the safest places to live in the US in general and in Minnesota specifically. A site called Safewise recently put together its rankings of the safest cities in Minnesota for 2021.
Safewise didn't only rank the top 20 safest cities in the state, they also looked at other crime data too. They reported that according to this year's survey, Minnesotans are less worried about their safety than they were in last year's survey. Minnesotans are also less worried about their safety than the average American. The exact numbers are 33% of Minnesotans are worried about their safety on a daily basis, and 45% of Americans are worried about their safety.
However, even though the daily worry has decreased, personal crime went up in Minnesota. Safewise writes that "survey participants noted an increase in personal experiences with violent crime and gun violence in the last 12 months." On the other hand, the number of personal experiences of property crime went down over the past year.
Despite the increase in violent crime, Minnesota is below the national average for violent crime and property crime. Minnesota has the 12th lowest violent crime rate and the 25th lowest property crime rate. And on top of that, each of the top 20 safest cities in Minnesota all had a lower violent and property crime rate than the Minnesota average. So you could easily safe that these 20 cities are some of the safest in the country.
