The Minnesota Zoo Is Asking for Help Naming Their Newest Baby Tapir!
On August 8th, the Minnesota Zoo welcomed its newest addition to the family, a baby Malayan Tapir. Now, they are asking for help naming the adorable little one!
According to a post on their Facebook page, the little Tapir will make his Zoo debut in the coming days. Since birth, momma and baby have been behind the scenes bonding and zoo keepers have been helping the little one learn how to swim! The little Tapir does not have a name, yet, but that's where the Minnesota Zoo is asking for help!
The choice in names are down to Tua (which means luck), Zaka (meaning honesty/intelligence), Sabtu (meaning Saturday- the day he was born), or Teruna (which means youthful). All names has roots to the native land where Malayan Tapirs are found.
Malayan Tapirs are listed as endangered and are the largest of the four tapir species. The Minnesota Zoo are assisting in the Malayan Tapir Species Survival Plan to help support Tapir conservation. The newest Tapir is the eight one born in the Minnesota Zoo since 1985.
