The 2020 Twin Cities Marathon Goes “Virtual”
The 39th annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon which was to be held in October has been changed to a "virtual" format.
According to a Facebook post by Twin Cities in Motion, they shared the news yesterday afternoon (June 23). Event organizers made the decision after meeting with the Twin Cities in Motion medical directors and with help from public health officials.
Twin Cities In Motion made this decision based on current Minnesota Department of Health restrictions that do not allow for public gatherings larger than either 25 or 250 persons (depending on venue), and which are not expected to be loosened substantially between now and October
With the change in format, the TC Half Marathon, Relay and 5K will all be held in a virtual format from July 4-17, while the Medtronic TC 1 Mile will happen between Aug. 13-20. The Women Run The Cites event will take place between Sept. 10-20 and the Marathon Weekend races will happen Oct. 1-31.
The "virtual" format allows for participants to have an extended period of time to complete their race in a socially distant manner. This will also allow the runner(s) to submit their results, earn finishing medals and participation gear.
