Summer officially arrived over the weekend. We have had some hot, sunny days already to get us into the summer-frame-of-mind. While much has been made of the many activities and events that are not happening this summer, here and everywhere. There are still plentiful signs of summer around us.

I stopped by the Lake Kohlmier Beach on one of the 90+ degree days we had recently. While I really wanted to jump into the lake, I didn't have a swimsuit. I do kind of wish I had taken off my shoes and run into the water. It would have done a good job to cool me down.

The Owatonna County Club is operating its pool on a reservation basis. River Springs Water Park is open for limited programs.

I recently picked up an ice cream treat at a local establishment. I usually lose the race of eating it below the level of the cup before it starts to melt down my hand.

The 4th of July holiday will be different this year. The Blooming Prairie Old Fashioned Independence Day celebration with their grand parade is canceled. However they will still host fireworks at Victory Field in BP.

The Owatonna Early Edition Rotary Club will host its annual Patriot Skies fireworks show at the Steele County Fairgrounds, however the grandstand will be closed. The Steele County American Dairy Association malt stand and a few food vendors will be available in Owatonna, staying over from the Drive-Thru Dairy Days on June 27-28.

Whether you are basking in the sun at the beach or pool or enjoying a cool treat, a good book topped things off nicely. Check out the Owatonna and Blooming Prairie libraries summer reading program.

What's summer without youth sports? Although it started later than usual, summer events are up and running.
