Many of you know that I come from that big city every day to work. I came down Sunday in anticipation of the storm. After a long day in the station on Monday Jerry helped me make sure I could get my truck out.

Update: 1/21/18 Blizzard Warning added for some areas of southern and southwestern Minnesota A portion of the Winter Storm Warning has been upgraded to a Blizzard Warning from Mankato to the south and west, including Fairmont and St. James. The Winter Storm Warning was expanded, slightly southeast. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Gaylord through the Twin Cities metro.

Reschedule dates have been announced for several of the events postponed Thursday, January 11 due to winter weather and the subsequent school closings across southern Minnesota. Owatonna, which didn't close school, had five varsity events scheduled.

Will school be cancelled, or let out early? When will the announcement be made?

Updated: The National Weather Service says mixed wintry precipitation will push into western Minnesota this evening with a second area developing later tonight further east from south central Minnesota to northwest Wisconsin.

A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for late Wednesday through the day Thursday.

The polar freezer door has been left open and we are experiencing some extremely cold temperatures. My car thermometer said -12 when I got to the station on Saturday. Combined with a bit of wind that puts the wind chills in the -35 category resulting in a Wind Chill Advisory for the immediate area and most of eastern Minnesota with areas to the west and north in a Wind Chill Warning.

The National weather service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 1am to 7pm Friday.

Winter driving is a mental and physical challenge. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety wants motorists to take time now to prepare for the risks that lie ahead. In a blog on their website, the department recommends people prepare their cars for the change in season.
