Storms Hit Parts of Fillmore, Houston Counties; Damage Reported
Caledonia, MN (KROC AM News) - Parts of Houston County in southeast Minnesota were affected by a fast-moving storm cell just before noon Wednesday.
Sheriff Mark Inglett says the storm “caused significant damage to area farms in Caledonia Township.” Inglett says the damage “included downed trees, power lines, barns and various outbuildings being demolished.”
The sheriff noted at the time the storm hit “our area was under a storm advisory but no watches or warnings were in effect at the time. Radar did not indicate funnel clouds in the area.” At last report, no injuries were reported. There were numerous power outages reported.
He says damage seemed to be isolated to the area between County Road 1 and County Road 10 northwest of Caledonia.
The National Weather Service also received reports of downed trees and some structural damage south of Harmony in neighboring Fillmore County.
Another round of storms developed in the early afternoon hours in southwest Wisconsin and they produced severe weather as they moved east.
According to the Weather Service:
“These storms were slow to strengthen, but as they pressed into southwest Wisconsin, they began to increase in strength. What was initially a hail and wind threat turned to tornadoes in west-central Wisconsin. In addition, straight-line winds in this same location produce a swatch of wind damage. “
The agency plans to survey the storm zone Thursday to assess the damage.
