Thanksgiving weekend will hopefully include time with family and friends for you, possibly some turkey and turkey leftovers, and definitely some Owatonna football. How about adding some junior hockey to your plate? The Steele County Blades host a pair of game against their Highway 14 rival on Friday and Saturday, November 23-24 at Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna. Face off each night is at 7 pm.

The Blades beat the Vipers in the season opener 6-4 September 21. The teams played a couple of exhibitions before that. Kasson is new to the league this season.

Communication on the ice between a goalie and his defensemen is crucial. And despite the fact that the Blades have had goalies from all around the world on their rosters over the years, that part of the game still comes naturally. Niilo Ventela comes from Finland, following in the footsteps of a previous player from his country.

Brendon Crayne is only from Superior, WI and is in his second season with the Blades. He was both a skater and a goalie in youth hockey and his father told him he had to choose one spot. Crayne chose goalie and is happy he did.
