Southern Minnesota Facing Possible 48 Hours Of On/Off Rain
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The National Weather Service says the southern half of Minnesota is facing a potential drenching.
Periods of rain are possible into Saturday evening with totals in the 2 - 4 inch range. Some areas could receive more than four inches.
The NWS says strong to severe storms with damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado are also possible through Thursday evening in parts of southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and western Wisconsin.
Rain is also in the forecast for northeast Minnesota into the weekend, with possible totals of 1 - 2 inches. This would be welcome news for crews that have been busy for weeks dealing with wildfires. The largest is in Lake County. Known as the Greenwood Fire, it has already charred about 22,000 acres and destroyed some structures.
The NWS says "there remains a large degree of uncertainty on the exact track and timing of these storms, with each round of storms influencing the location and timing of the next round."
