Sophomores’ Career-First Goals Lift Huskies to Victory
A pair of Owatonna sophomores scored their first varsity goals Thursday night, carrying the Huskies to a 2-0 win over Albert Lea at the Lincoln Soccer Complex. The match remained scoreless through the midway point of the second half when Asad Ali split the defense and headed in a ball from Sam Henson. It occurred in the 60th minute.
About seven minutes later Sam Sampson scored on a rebound during a scrum in front of the net with the assist to Aaron Bangs. Sampson was a late call-up to the varsity to replace a player out of town on a family event.
After a back-and-forth first half where neither team had great scoring chances, the shots were even at 2-2. OHS controlled much of the play in the second half, out-shooting the Tigers 8-0 and amassing eight corner kicks for the contest.
The Huskies (5-1-1, 4-0 Big Nine) play a makeup match at Northfield Saturday, September 15 at 5 pm.
Owatonna's girls soccer club blanked Albert Lea Thursday 3-0. Grace Wolfe scored twice and Erin Holzerland scored. Samantha Fredin got the shutout in goal.
OHS girls tennis topped Red Wing Thursday 6-1.
