Imagination time! It's 90+ degrees out with high humidity, you've just wrapped up push mowing your lawn, and it's time to reach for something refreshing to help you out. Does beef broth, ginger ale, and lemon serve over ice sound refreshing? Nope, but it's a real recipe from the bygone days of the 50s and 60s and its name is....Beef Fizz

I can't imagine who thought up putting those three ingredients together and serving it over ice. You'd have better luck putting together a more refreshing beverage by randomly generating three ingredients. It's like a mad-libs beverage.

I googled it, and all I got was a Reddit page with a recipe and then a recipe posted by a user named Canadian.recipe from 2009, so it's got to be a Canadian thing?

If you are feeling daring, or just want to punish yourself you can try it for yourself. The recipe calls for:

  • 2 cans of condensed beef broth
  • 1 cup of chilled ginger ale
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

Combine all of those ingredients together and pour it over ice, and it will serve 6-8 daring souls.

I feel this would be the beverage my grandpa would make and then announce to me that it would put hair on my chest if I drank it.

Maybe this can be the new challenge to drink some beef fizz. Or maybe this is what July's level of the year in the calamity that is 2020 is now offering.

If you are worried about your caloric intake, according to iFood.tv it has 179 calories and over 5000mg of sodium in a complete serving.
