UPDATE - The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office says the person involved in the stand-off has been taken into custody and no longer poses a threat to the public. Additional information will be released later.

Pine Island (KROC-AM News) - The Goodhue County Sheriff's Office says an ongoing standoff in Pine Island began this morning when deputies responded to a call for a possible domestic dispute.

A news release says the person involved in the situation made threats against members of law enforcement involving the use of firearms and stated that they were holding a hostage. The responding deputies then requested the assistance of law enforcement tactical teams from both Goodhue and Olmsted Counties.

Since the initial response to the incident, Sheriff Martin Kelly says it has been determined no additional persons are in the residence. He also says negotiations, which began shortly before noon, are continuing. The initial reports from the scene indicated an armed man was experiencing a mental health crisis.

A "Shelter in Place" alert was issued only for an area of southeast Pine Island and currently remains in effect. The news release says it was inadvertently issued through the state's CodeRed Alert system to a wide area of Minnesota unaffected by the incident.
