Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect Through 2 PM
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a large portion of southern Minnesota in effect until 2 pm this afternoon, including Dakota, Le Sueur, Rice, Scott, Steele, and Waseca counties (+more).
Large hail, damaging wind gusts, and locally heavy downpours will be the primary hazards with this morning round of storms.
A second round of severe weather is expected later this afternoon and evening. Destructive wind gusts, large hail, locally heavy rainfall, and a tornado or two will be possible with this second round of storms.
Remain weather aware today & tonight. Have a plan to take shelter during any outdoor activities. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
From the National Weather Service this morning: Thunderstorms will impact western MN into southern MN this morning, and eastern MN/western WI during the afternoon. At least a few severe thunderstorms are likely with damaging wind the main threat, but large hail and a few tornadoes could be possible during the afternoon.
