Section 1A and 1AA Girls Basketball Results Show One Upset

The coaches apparently seeded the Section 1A and 1AA girls basketball tournaments right with just one real upset Thursday night.  The #6 seed Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars were defeated by #11 seed Chatfield in Zumbrota in Section 1AA.

In Section 1AA top seed Rochester Lourdes rolled past Caledonia 77-44.  Plainview-Elgin-Millville edged Triton 65-60 in the #8 vs #9 seed game.  Winona Cotter downed LaCrescent 69-35.  Stewartville breezed by Kenyon-Wanamingo 75-35.

Lourdes (24-2) faces P-E-M (16-10) Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the Rochester Mayo Civic Arena.  Cotter (23-3) will play Stewartville (19-8) at 7:30 p.m. in the Arena.

#2 seed Lake City ran by Pine Island 61-45 while Dover-Eyota beat St. Charles 56-40.  Goodhue defeated Lewiston-Altura 67-42 and Chatfield downed Zumbrota-Mazeppa 46-38.   The Cougars ended their season 16-10.

Lake City (22-5) goes up against Dover-Eyota (19-7) at 6:00 p.m. in the Mayo Civic Auditorium Monday.  Goodhue (24-3) will play Chatfield (10-17).

In the Section 1A Tournament top seed Blooming Prairie breezed by Leroy-Ostrander 70-22.  #9 seed Randolph got by #8 seed Mabel-Canton 42-39.  Hayfield dominated Schaeffer Academy 56-30 while Kingsland bested Lyle-Pacelli 56-33.

The Awesome Blossoms (19-5) play Randolph (13-14) Monday 6:00 p.m. at Rochester Century High School.  Hayfield (15-11) and Kingsland (18-9) hook up at 7:30 p.m. at Century.

#2 seed Fillmore Central rolled by #15 Faribault Bethlehem Academy 58-23. #7  Southland downed #10 Lanesboro 62-49.  #3 seed Houston cruised by #14 Spring Grove 50-30 while #6 Grand Meadow beat #11 Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 71-48.

Fillmore Central (19-8) plays Southland (12-11) in a Three Rivers Conference match-up at 6:00 p.m. at Rochester Lourdes High School Monday.   Houston (21-6) faces Grand Meadow (17-9) in a Southeast Conference tilt at 7:30 p.m. at Lourdes.
